Gertrude Fisher

Gertrude H. Fisher 97, of Reedsburg, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Ridgeview Terrace, Reedsburg Senior Life Center, where she had resided for nine years. Gertrude was born April 6, 1919 in rural Baraboo Township to the late Fred and Helen (Heinz) Bisch. On October 9, 1958, she married Rupert Fisher, who preceded her in death December 6, 1994. She attended rural elementary school, Baraboo High School, and graduated St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Madison, in 1941. She worked at St. Mary’s Ringling Hospital in Baraboo for many years. Following her marriage to Rupert “Slim” Fisher, and moving to the Reedsburg area, she was employed by Sauk County at the Health Care Center and Family Care Services. She attained her degree in Psychiatric Nursing and continued her nursing career until reluctantly retiring at the age of 73. Gertrude was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish where she was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the American Cancer Society. Survivors include her children: Dianne (Curt) Haskins of Lake Placid, FL James (Evelyn) Hewitt of Big Bend, WI Stephen (Peggy) Hewitt of Crown Point, IN Nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Sisters; Alice Cass-Hinz of Dubuque, IA Irene (Gerald) Anstett of Plover, WI R. Claire (Leonard) Sprecher of LaValle, WI Brother; Fred R. (Marilyn) Bisch of Huntsville, AL. And many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and a special friend Pam Brouillard P.S.Y.D. of Corpus Christi, TX In addition to her husband Rupert, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Gertrude, Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 11:00 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Reverend David Carrano, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. A time of visitation will be on Monday, August 1, 2016, at Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, beginning at 4:00 pm and concluding with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation will also be at church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow services at Oak Lawn Cemetery in LaValle. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the Sacred Heart Endowment Fund, the United Fund, or the Hospital Foundation. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Reedsburg Senior Life Center, some of whom she mentored in their early careers, for the level of professionalism, care and compassion, as if she were one of their own.
