Anton Vielhuber REEDSBURG, Wisconsin Obituary

Anton Vielhuber

The last card game has been played. The last load of wheat straw has been hauled. The last call to the co-op asking about the price of beans has been made. On Wed., June 8, 2016, Anthony L. Vielhuber gave his final instructions before rejoining his wife of over 60 years, Ersel, at his heavenly eternal resting place. Tony was born Mar. 17, 1925 just outside of Leland, WI, the son of European immigrants Frank and Anna (Ruml) Vielhuber. He was raised on a small farm, which influenced his entire life. Tony attended country school. Sometimes fishing in the near-by creek was more alluring than attending school. Tony played football with his brother Frank for Sauk City High School. As a young adult, Tony began driving milk truck with a can milk truck. He hauled can milk until 1970 when the Vielhuber Milk Route was the last hauler to bring canned milk into the Reedsburg Wisconsin Dairies milk processing facility. Tony continued to haul bulk milk and was involved when his son Rick took over the milk route. Grandson Darran continues the family tradition and is the third-generation Vielhuber hauling milk. One of Tony’s favorite possessions was a 1946 open van milk truck, a replica similar to the truck he began hauling milk with. On Dec. 30, 1950, Tony married Ersel Cady at the North Freedom Methodist Church and was a lifelong member of the church. Ersel and Tony had three children: Judy, Linda and Rick. They raised their family outside of Rock Springs, moving onto a 100-year-old dilapidated farm when the children were little. One of Ersel and Tony’s life-long projects was making this a special and livable home and farm for their family. Many memories were created there, watching three generations of kids, grandkids and great-grandkids grow up. Tony raised animals and grew crops. He hired a variety of people to help on the farm, with brother-in-law Curt Cady being instrumental for many years. Tony and Ersel traveled all of the lower 48 states except Washington. Tony will be remembered for many successful Canadian and other fishing trips with family, neighbors and friends; proudly displaying a winning scorecard for the previous evening’s card club; making well-used machinery operate on their farm; having grandchildren and relatives drive his line of reconditioned antique tractors in local parades; looking forward to visits from and Sunday lunches with grandchildren and great-grandchildren; never being short of finding chores for everyone else to do. Survivors include children Judy Licht of North Freedom, Linda of La Crosse and Rick (Dianne) of Poynette; grandchildren Kari (Mike) Dineen, Andy Licht, Shanna (Quentin) Eichman and Darran Vielhuber; great-grandchildren Braeden and Bryce Karll, Waylan, Ellie and Dylan Vielhuber and Aiden and Taylor Dineen; sisters, Emily Novotny and Helen Beardsley; and sister-in-law Betty Cady, as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings and their spouses Frank & Rita Vielhuber, Ann and Floyd Leister; an infant sister Mary; brother-in-law Bob Beardsley; son-in-law Dan Licht; grandson Nathan Vielhuber and great-grandson Baby Nathaniel Vielhuber. Services will be held on Mon., June 13 at the North Freedom United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Carol Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, North Freedom. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Farber Funeral Home and again on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
