Mary Ashley

Mary Frost Ashley, 92, of Kenosha, passed away Tuesday, August 7th, 2006, at Kenosha Medical Center. Born in St. Louis, MO, on February 19, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Stanton and Margaret (Rogers) Palmer. She came to Kenosha from Chicago in 1931 and has resided here since. On June 16, 1934, she married Richard Frost; he died in March of 1970. She then married Dr. Richard Ashley on December 28, 1985. He preceded her in death in January of 1988. She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, where she was senior and junior warden; she was responsible for the building of Lakeside Towers through ECHO-Ecumenical Church Housing Organization; she helped found Armitage Academy; she was on the board of the Kenosha Public Museum, Hawthorne Hollow, and the Kenosha Achievement Center; and she was benefactor in helping to establish the new YMCA Building. Mary was the recipient of the Girl Scout Council "Be Your Best Award" in 2001, the Patron Saint Award by the CYC, and the Allen Bullamore Humanitarian Award by KAC. She is survived by three children, Judy (Dave) Russert of Hilton Head, SC, Patsy Callahan of Kenosha, and Rick (Julie) Frost of Philadelphia, PA; seven step-children, Richard Ashley, Jr. of Illinois, Penny Kovacic of NY, Charles Ashley of Kenosha, Debbie Junkel of Kenosha, Annie Mater of Milwaukee, Nini Gomez of Massachusetts, and John Ashley of Milwaukee, WI; eleven grandchildren; twenty step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rod Palmer; a sister, Margaret Stevenson; and a son-in-law, Patrick Callahan. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 11th, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Green Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Armitage Academy, Kenosha Public Museum, Kenosha Achievement Center, or Hawthorne Hollow would be appreciated by the family.
