Mary Stevens Obituary

Mary Frances Stevens, 90, of Daytona Beach, FL, formerly of Enterprise, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. She was born in Wyatt, January 15, 1926, a daughter of the late Earl and Olga Martin Jones. Surviving are one daughter, Sandra McComas, Daytona Beach, FL, one grandson, Steve McComas, Daytona Beach, one step granddaughter, Frances Phillips and her husband Mike, Ormand Beach, FL, one step great-granddaughter, Mickie Greenhalgh and her husband Kyle, Ormand Beach, three nephews, Edward Glover and his wife Terry, New Martinsville, Dan Glover and his wife Sue, Bridgeport, Adam Michna, Monongah, and several great nieces and great nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bill McComas, and her sister, Kathleen Glover. Mary was a graduate of Mannington High School, Fairmont State College, and attended West Virginia University. She was a member of the county, state, and National Education Association. She was also a past member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a national teacher’s honorary society. She taught in the Marion County School system for 24 years, both at Hess Elementary School and Monongah Elementary School from which she retired in 1988. She was a member of the Enterprise United Methodist Church and attended the Cross Roads Baptist Church in Daytona, FL. Mary loved to travel and was a member of the WV Club in Florida. She dearly loved every one of her students that she taught throughout the years. The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm, Saturday, August 27, with Pastor Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
