Bill Gillman

Bill Gillman, 78 of Gatewood, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a short illness. Born on March 24, 1938 in Mingo, WV to the late Allen Gillman and Nettie Dingess Gillman. Mr. Gillman was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed coon hunting. In his earlier years, he helped train numerous coon dogs to hunt. He retired from the coal industry with 35 years of service as an electrician with Cannelton Coal Company. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and also was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents those preceding him in death are brothers, Harrison Gillman, Sam Gillman, Boyd Gillman, and Robert Ellis; sisters, Nettie Dempsey, Edna Faye Estepp, and Anna May Estepp; grandson, Nicholas Dale Gillman; granddaughters, Sarah Nicole Atkins and Amy Renee Gillman “McKinney”, sons-in-law, George D. Brewer and Bruce J. Gilkerson. Those surviving include his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Elizabeth “Yvonne” Gillman of Fayetteville; children, Glen Allen Gillman and wife Patricia of Crimora, VA, Shelia Ann Berry and husband Buddy of Gatewood, Jean Shrewsbury and husband Craig of Fishersville, VA, Randall Lee Gillman and wife Brenda of Gatewood, William Dale Gillman and wife Carol of Gatewood, and Sandra Lynn Brewer of Crimora, VA; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive him. Funeral Services for Mr. Gillman will be conducted at 11am on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Rev. Paul Allen officiating. Interment will follow at the Gillman Cemetery on Water Plant Road, Gatewood. Visitation will be held at High Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 6 till 9 pm.
