Walter Carter Obituary

Walter Austin Carter, 73, of Martinsburg, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at his home. Born January 1, 1943, in Wheeling, WV, he was the son of the late Lawrence Leo Carter and Clarinda Mae Page Carter. He retired as a Captain with the Green Beret, from the United States Army-Airborne Division. He was a member of the Elks Club Mountain City Lodge #382 of Frederick, MD for over twenty years, he was avid Steelers fan, never met a stranger, and was a very generous person. He is survived by two sons, Thomas Carter, Walter Carter, Jr.; one daughter, Victoria Carter; adopted daughter, Pamela Rampersaud; numerous grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; one brother, Herman Spencer Carter; two sisters, Canola Jean Harris and Donna Carter Terry; and best friend, Robert Hill, Jr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dagmar Carter, a son, Mark Carter; two brothers, Richard Carter and Thomas Jerome Carter; two sisters, Rev. Audrey Mae Carter and Shirley Nadine Paige. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Brown Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be held in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers, gifts and donations will be accepted by Brown Funeral Home on behalf of the family.
