James Thomas (Jim) Miller, 90, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Facility in Kearneysville, WV, after a long battle with Alzheimer ’s disease. He leaves behind his daughters, Linda Miller and Nancy Ronan, Linda’s husband, Charles Devine and her sons, Seth and Ray Miller; his sister, Eunice (Betty) Gentile; and many nieces and nephews. The son of Rose Anna Miller (nee’ O’Donnell) and James Powell Miller, Jim was born May 25, 1926 in Washington DC. He is predeceased by his brother, William, who passed of congenital heart disease in 1945, and his brother Robert, who died in 2015 after his own fight against Alzheimer’s. During World War II, Jim enlisted in the U. S. Army, but the war ended before he was able to begin his training for the Army Air Corp. After the war, Jim attended Strayer Business College and became a police officer with the Metropolitan Police in Washington, D. C. During his years with the police department, he came to specialize in forensic document work. By the time of his retirement from the Metropolitan Police, Jim was the Chief Questioned Document Examiner for the Department. Later, in private practice, he was a much requested consultant. Throughout his life, Jim was an avid sportsman who excelled at every sport to which he turned his hand. In his retirement years he lived in the Shepherdstown, West Virginia are, where he enjoyed gardening, golf, exercise and being involved in political events. Jim was a loving father to his daughters and was a devoted husband to his wife of 60 years, Kay Miller (nee’ Luskey) who died May 13, 2009. He is missed.
