Barbara Meller

Barbara Sophia Meller, 72, of Inwood, WV, died after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 and went to her eternal communion with her Savior. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 20, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Helen Vilius Jablonski. She is survived by two children, Jeffrey Stephen Meller of Winchester, VA and Kristina Marie Meller of Christianburg, VA; three grandchildren, Travis Van Schoyck of Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth Nester and husband, John, and Zachary Meller all of Christiansburg, VA and a great-granddaughter, Abigal Grace Nester; one sister, Patricia Frazer of Levittown, PA; was "Aunt Barb" to niece, Deborah Weldon and nephews, Allen and Mark Frazer, all of Pennsylvania; and her longtime companion, Renzie D. Silver. She was the widow of Henry S. Meller and was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Jablonski. Ms. Barbara was gratefully employed for 20 years at the Valley Health Childcare Center in Winchester, VA, in her cherished role as a teacher and a caregiver. In retirement, she continued in this role as a three year volunteer for the Adult Day Care Program at Berkeley Senior Services in Martinsburg; and also as a substitute teacher in their senior exercise program, as well as visiting her home-bound friends. In giving, she received so much. Barbara was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and also New Life Community Church, embracing all Christians in their shared love for our Savior. Being with people both healed and revitalized her in both social and volunteer opportunities, as well as the blessing of meaningful worship. Barbara was an active person, loving music and dance, singing, hiking, camping, exercise, and swimming. She hopes to be remembered with a song on her lips, a waltz in her heart, and wearing her tennis shoes. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 11:00AM at St. Leo Catholic Church with Father Alfred Obiudu celebrant, 2109 Sulphur Springs Road, Inwood, WV 25428.. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, Barbara asks that donations be made to her favorite charities: St. Jude Children's Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929; Wounded Warrior Project, National Process Center, PO Box 758541, Topeka, KS; or the Hospice organization of your community.
