Harold Anderson

Harold E. Anderson died very peacefully Monday, April 18, 2016 at his home. He was born June 5, 1930 in Clay County, North Carolina to William Carmen and Maymie Curtis Anderson. He grew up on the family dairy farm with his four brothers, William, George, Robert and Jerry. Harold graduated from Hayesville, North Carolina High School in 1949. He worked on the family farm for a short while before joining the Navy and proudly serving his country in the Korean War. He served part of his duty on board the USS Oberon AKA-14. Harold was a member of the VFW Allison Bristol Post 6812. On December 20, 1958 he married Henrietta Saltz. They eloped to Florida and spent part of their honeymoon at the greyhound race tracks. Harold gave her the special name Henni. He and his bride began their life adventure in the heavy construction and steelworker industry traveling with his father-in-law and Henrietta’s cousins. They began in Southern California moving north to Washington where they worked on Chief Joseph Dam and the missile base at Royal City. The next and final stop for Harold and Henni was Quincy, WA where they settled and actively farmed until 1974. Even after Harold rented out his ground, he still liked to farm the corners of the circles for many years. In 1974 they had B. Koole build their dream house. Harold and Henni had no children of their own but enjoyed the company of all their nieces and nephews. They also thought of their neighbors Darrell, Ann, Alyssa and Blake VanDyke as family. Harold was one of those special people who could make anyone feel at ease. He could make conversation with anyone and you always ended up laughing when you were around Harold. He always saw the good side of life. When Harold wasn’t busy in the fields farming, he and Henni enjoyed square dancing and going to the horse and dog races. They also took great pleasure in taking a junket and flying off to Reno and Carson City, Nevada. Those who knew Harold well knew he was a staunch Democrat and one who had strong opinions on many life issues, but he always got along with everyone. Harold was always a farmer at heart and enjoyed his coffee gatherings with other farmers in the area. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta, in 1995, his parents and two brothers William James Anderson and George Curtis Anderson. He is survived by his brother Robert Estes Anderson (Virginia) their children Robert Jr. James, John and Jennifer; brother Jerry Anderson (Betty); and brother-in-law James Russell Salts Sr. (Martha) and their children Melissa Saltz Cheek, Cynthia Saltz Simmons (SI), Amy Saltz Brodhage (Mark) and James Russell Saltz Jr. Old friend, you will be thought of and missed every day.
