Stephen “Steve” Ralph Kellogg, born to David and Helen Kellogg, passed away
July 25, 2016 from cancer. Surrounded by friends and family reminiscing about
his life, he went home to the Lord feeling safe and secure.
Stephen grew up in Kenya. His family were missionaries with World Gospel
Mission. He spent his formative school years at Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe.
He loved hunting and exploring in the plains near Mount Kenya. He excelled in
sports, especially soccer and rugby.
As a young adult, he attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA, on a
soccer scholarship. As captain, he led Westmont’s team to a national
championship. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he later attended Vennard
College, and received his Master’s of Divinity from Wesleyan Biblical Seminary
in Jackson, MS. As an adult, he did mission work in five African countries
including Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda. These ministries
included teaching theological education, church planting, preaching and sports
ministry outreach, as well as serving as field director and working especially
with widows and orphans.
When he returned to the U.S., he worked with Bankers’ Life and Casualty,
becoming a trainer of new agents. He lived in Wenatchee, WA, then moved to
Salt Lake City, UT, for a time. He spent ten years in Tallahassee, FL, after
which he returned to Wenatchee to help care for his elderly parents.
He is survived by his wife, Christal Kellogg; mother, Helen Kellogg; siblings:
Rebecca St. John Bassett and Paul Kellogg; stepchildren: Melissa Wentz and
Jesse Wentz; grandchildren: Lily and Ellie Wentz; as well as relatives from
the Kellogg, Slater, Reinhardt and Walstead families. He was predeceased by
his father, David B. Kellogg, who passed on April 25, 2016 -
exactly three months to the day previously.
Stephen was an amazing man who helped people all over the world with friends
across the globe. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
