Cecil Young Obituary

Cecil E. “Pete” Young, 93, a lifelong Wenatchee resident and longtime businessman, passed away at his residence in East Wenatchee on Friday, July 29, 2016. He was born on January 23, 1923 in Wenatchee to the late G. Earl and Ella (Gellespie) Young. Pete was raised in Malaga and Wenatchee, attended Wenatchee schools, and graduated from Wenatchee High School with the class of 1941. He briefly worked at Boeing prior to going to work in Wenatchee for Atwood Orchards. Pete was introduced to Florence Marjorie Dyment, by her brother Gordon. Pete said, “It took her two years to Kiss Me”. They were married on October 12, 1943 in Tacoma and made their home together in Wenatchee. In 1946, he went to work with his brother, Glen, at his shop, Young’s Automotive, in Wenatchee. During slow times, Pete would work at the Buick garage; he quickly became their transmission mechanic and specialized in Dyna-Flo and Hydro-Matic transmissions. While working for Buick, they sent him to the Edison Electric School in Seattle for additional training. In the mid 1950’s, he returned to work with his brother at Young’s Automotive, purchasing the business in 1956. With his wife, Florence, doing the bookkeeping, they operated together until 1984 when they sold the business and retired. They moved to make their home in East Wenatchee in 1975 but wintered in Yuma, Arizona for 28 years. They enjoyed travelling and visited the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii as well as trips to Disneyland and Disney World. Their last trip to Disneyland was with their four grandchildren. Pete was a former member of the Chelan County Sheriff’s Posse, the Active Club, the B.P.O.E. # 1186 and F.O.E. Aerie # 204. He was a longtime member and former President of Appleatchee Riders Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping and all outdoor activities. After his retirement he developed a passion for golf; playing many rounds with his foursome at Rock Island Golf Course and was a regular at several courses in Yuma. Pete is survived by his wife of 72 years, Florence, East Wenatchee; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jeff Cockrum, Quincy; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Linda Young, Pasco; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Rose Young, Wenatchee; four grandchildren, Shannon (Troy) Davis, Richland; David (Kristi) Young, Nine Mile Falls; Schiree (Fred) Ybarra, Quincy and Amy (Lee) Johnson, Hauser, ID; seven great grandchildren, Emilio Ybarro, Dalton Young, Lane Young, Jacob Davis, Megan Davis, Curtis Johnson and Cooper Johnson.
