Larry Hurlbert, an established Aberdeen resident, passed away at his home on Tuesday July 26, 2016.
He was 70. Larry was born September 16, 1945 to Alvin and Eunice (Lauzon) Hurlbert in Bremerton, WA.
He later moved to Aberdeen where he was raised and graduated with the Weatherwax Class of 1963.
After graduation, Larry joined the United States Navy and later went on to serve in the United States
Navy Reserve, totaling 6 years of service and a tour in Vietnam. On January 7th, 1972 Larry married
Valarie Kay (Mumm) Hurlbert. Larry worked as a lineman and line superintendent for the Grays Harbor
PUD, retiring in 1993. He then went on to work for Miller’s Smith and Losli Sheet Metal before having a
final retirement in 2008.
Larry was always a kid at heart. He enjoyed many family vacations to Disneyland, including one last
September for his 70th birthday where the whole family dressed in Seahawks shirts and jerseys and had a
family photo taken. Traveling was something he enjoyed. It didn’t even matter where he was going; he
just liked to go and would be so excited to leave that he couldn’t sleep the night before, just like a kid.
He also enjoyed watching his grandkids play ball and went to every event he could. He loved going to
the casinos, golfing, rooting for the Seahawks and Mariners. He considered New Beginnings Community
Fellowship his home church. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them. He made
each person feel as if they were the most important, special and loved person on earth. Each one was
his favorite.
Larry is survived by his wife Valarie of Aberdeen; their daughters Wendy (Hurlbert) & Duane Olson of
Aberdeen, Carrie (Hurlbert) & David Anderson of Montesano, and Amy (Hurlbert) & Bob Rasler of
Aberdeen; and his brother George Hurlbert & wife Kelly of Onalaska. Nine grandchildren: Tyler
Anderson, Brittany Anderson, Brady Anderson, Hannah Olson, Emily Olson, Josiah Olson, Stephanie
