Ann Sullivan Obituary

Kathryn Sullivan (Kat), born on October 6, 1912, the daughter of the late William T. and Genevieve Sullivan, passed away on September 10, 2016 at the age of 103 in her apartment at Spring Arbor. She was a life-long resident of Winchester, growing up on National Avenue, and a proud graduate of Handley High School, class of 1931. She worked at the Woolen Mill, traveling to New York on buying trips, and later at National Fruit as a secretary until her retirement in 1972. She was fiercely independent and supported herself all of her life. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where she attended daily Mass for many years. Aunt Kat is the last remaining member of her large family of seven siblings. She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Tom Baker, Betsy Fisher, Ann Prokopchak, Pete March, Mike March, Susan Sullivan, Lynn Hess, Bill Sullivan, and many great nieces and nephews. She inspired all of us with her courage in facing the unpleasant realities of old age with grace and dignity. We will all miss her smiles and laughter. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Jones Funeral Home with a Rosary service beginning at 6:00 and visitation from 6:30 –8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Stanley Krempa officiating. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Angel Fund, 130 Keating Drive, Winchester, VA 22601, Handley Library, 100 West Piccadilly Street, Winchester, VA 22601, or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
