Claude H. Boardwine Obituary

Claude H. Boardwine, "Pop Paw", 92, of Rosedale, Va., formerly of the Loop section of Corn Valley, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Franklin Woods Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn. Born in Russell County, Va., on April 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Campbell and Pearl Boardwine.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Boardwine and brothers-in-law, Dale Sword and Garland Burke.


He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bassett, Va., a former quarter singer, a mandolin player, and the owner of Corn Valley Furniture and Antiques. A #1 golfer, his golfing buddies called him "Pop Paw". Claude was easy going, very witty and always laughing; he was a barrel of fun.


Survivors include his loving wife, Elsie Meadwell Boardwine; three daughters, Cynthia Perkins and husband Roy of Baton Rouge, La., Teresa Boardwine and fiance Terry of Castleton Mills, Va., and Denise Nasca of Bassett, Va.; stepson, Gary Meadwell and wife Lora of Rosedale; stepdaughter, Karen Johnson and husband Johnny of Chilhowie, Va.; five granddaughters, one great grandson; two step-grandsons; two sisters, Marion Sword Burke of Lebanon, and Betty Seamon of Abingdon, Va., several nieces, nephews, and friends.


Pallbearers will be Andrew Johnson, Jarred Johnson, Johnny Poston, Ralph Hale, Lesley Hale, Bobby Lowe, Jake McGlothlin, Mike Johnson and Dave Powers.


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016, in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jonah Shoop and the Rev. Donnie Hobson officiating. Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.


The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
