William Gibson

William Ross Gibson, 96, left his loving family and friends on September 2, 2016. Bill retired to the Northern Neck 30 years ago and enjoyed active retirement being involved in various charitable, social and faith related activities as well as boating and golf. He was a WWII veteran serving in submarines. He was awarded, among other citations, the Silver Star and Presidential Unit Commendation. He remained in the Navy after the war, commanding a submarine and a destroyer. After military service, he was employed in management and technical support of NORAD and ASW developments. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy and survived by his sons, Richard, David and Peter; his daughter, Mari, grandchildren, Amy and John David; great grandchildren, Charlie, Jack and Lila and brothers, Robert and Richard. A celebration of life service will be held at St Andrews Presbyterian Church on November 5, 2016 at 11 am. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The David B. Nichols Health Clinic, 16186 Main Ridge RD, Tangier Island, VA or a charity of your choice. Interment is private.
