Innis Hazelgrove Wood Jr. passed away on August 31, 2016, at the age of 83 after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtis Ransone Wood, and father, Innis Wood Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Dixie Moorman Wood. He is also survived by his daughters, Jo Ann Lertora and Sandra Hughes, both of Roanoke, and son, Wesley Wood (Deirdra) of King George, VA. Granddaughters, Emily Lertora of Roanoke; Lindsey Shively (Chris) of Roanoke; and Katie Hawkins (Brian) of Ladysmith, VA; and grandsons, Christopher Hathaway of Lake Charles, LA; and Thomas Hathaway of Fairport, VA; Ryan Hughes (Ashley) of Henrico; Nicholas Lertora of Roanoke; and Nicholas Wood (Jennifer) of Arlington. Great-grandchildren Ella Hughes; Blayke and Nami Shively; Ryder and Piper Hathaway; Noah, Eli, and Olivia Hawkins. Stepson, Charles R. Headley of Virginia Beach; and stepdaughters, Lisa Hart (William Powanda) of Brick, NJ; Janet Bridwell (Thomas) of Concord, NC; Linda Peay (Roy) of Mechanicsville; and Polly Poffenroth (Matthew) of Potomac, MD. Step grandsons Sean Hart of Washington, DC; Patrick Hart of Point Pleasant, NJ; Dr. Alexander Bridwell of Wilmington, DE; Charles and Joseph Headley of Richmond; Tyler and Cory Peay; and Henry Poffenroth. Step granddaughters, Lauren Hart of Atlanta; Laura Lopez (David) of Charlotte, NC; Ella and Grace Poffenroth. Step great-granddaughter, Kensi Lopez. Innis was born October 16, 1932 in Richmond. He moved to the Northern Neck with his parents in 1949. He was a 1951 graduate of Wicomico High School. He loved the Northern Neck - the people and the water where he could fish and catch crabs. He was an avid duck hunter, finally giving it up about 10 years ago. He enjoyed the grandchildren, especially when he could take them out on the water and teach them things that they will never forget. Innis was drafted into the US Army in 1951 and served as a military policeman in the Korean War. Upon his return home, he worked for Virginia Power and Electric Company and Northern Neck Electric Company. He retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, VA as an Electrical Engineering Technician in 1991. Innis was a member of the American Legion, Ruritan Club, and charter member of the VFW. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Richmond. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Currie Funeral Home, 116 E. Church Street, Kilmarnock, and the visitation is one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Animal Welfare League at P.O.
