Herbert McAden

Herbert Wesley McAden, 88, passed away at his home on Monday, August 22, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth H. McAden; four children; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Wes attended Washington and Lee University and served in the United States Army in Korea. In the early 1960's, Wes began his career in Washington, DC when he was chosen to be Executive Vice President of the Cotton Warehouse Association. As Executive VP , he represented cotton warehousemen across the United States before the Congress and US Department of Agriculture. McAden also served as an advisor to the National Cotton Council of America and was instrumental in passing Agricultural Legislation, particularly the Food and Agriculture Act of 1965. In the late 1960's, McAden was selected by Cook Industries to be their Washington Representative. Cook Industries, based in Memphis, Tenn., was a large grain merchant with heavy involvement in export sales. In this capacity, he was a key player in the passage of the Agricultural Acts of 1970 and 1973 which moved farm programs to a more market oriented system. Following his time with Cook Industries, McAden was hired by the J. G. Boswell Corporation in California as their representative. The Boswell Corporation is one of the world's largest farming operations and is headquartered in the San Joaquin Valley of California. He retained Boswell as a core client when he established McAden and Associates which he served as President and sole owner until his retirement in 2005 when he moved to the Northern Neck of Virginia. Above all, Wes, AKA ,Daddy Mac, would like to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. A true patriot, his love of country was unsurpassed. A connoisseur of politics, he was never one to back away from a political debate, especially with his children. He always greeted the world with a warm smile, quick joke and word or two of wisdom. He loved food, fun, friends, fishing and all that life on the "Rivah" had to offer. Dad, "We love you good!"
