Mrs. Sarah Jane Ball Cook, Age 78 of Honaker, Virginia passed away Friday (October 14, 2016) at her home. Born January 26, 1938 in Venia, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Noah and Rosie Harris Ball. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended school at Council and had formerly been employed as a seamstress at Honaker Mills Sewing Factory. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith and enjoyed spending time outdoors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Lee Cook; son, Bo Arnold Cook, three infant sons, one infant daughter; one granddaughter, Kathy Ann Martin; one grandson, John Jeffery “J.J.” Cook; two sisters, Margaret Bowles and Betty Marsh and two brothers, Foster Ball and Chester McGlothlin. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include one son, Virgil Franklin Cook and wife, Vernia of Council, Virginia; daughter, Betty Ann Martin and husband, Johnny of Honaker, Virginia; five grandsons, John Martin, Jason Cook, Michael Cook, Danny Cook and David Cook; two step-grandchildren, Angie Stevens and Kimberly Bowman; special friend, Fairy Bowman; three great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Legacy Hospice and the gravediggers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willis Rasnake and Rev. Chester Ball officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jason Cook, John Martin, Michael Cook, Danny Cook, James Ball and Curtis McClain. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Stevens, Kalvin Hess, Rufus Bowman, Jack Ball, Earl Ball, Don Deel, Casey Deel and Leroy Ball. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Sunday at the Honaker Funeral Home where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM. Online condolences may be made at www.honakerfuneralhome.net.
