Mr. Orville Lee Yates, age 82, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia passed away Saturday morning (July 9, 2016) in a Kingsport, Tennessee hospital. Born May 17, 1934 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Pete and Josie Honaker Yates. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended Finney Baptist Church. He had formerly been employed as a coal miner at several area coal mines and had nineteen years of service as a heavy equipment operator for Permac Coal Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Hart Yates; one brother, Carlos Yates and one great-granddaughter, Bella Ramey. Survivors include three children, Diana Belcher and husband, Ronnie, Jerry Yates and wife, Connie and Scott Yates and wife, Renee all of Honaker, Virginia; six grandchildren, Sarah Ramey and husband, Curt, Brandi Jessee and husband, Matt, Amanda Yates and Stoney Hale, Erin Cann and husband, Jonathan, Blake Yates and wife, Angela and Brandon Yates and Nikki Swiney; seven great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Kate, Emma, Layne, Will, Lucas and Levi; six brothers, Howard Yates and wife, Irene, Chester Yates and wife, Wanda, Wayne Yates and wife, Wanda, Alfred Yates, Willis Yates and wife, Betty and Jerry “JW” Yates and wife, Linda; six sisters, Mattie McIntyre, Willie Combs and husband, Bob, Phyllis Ray and husband, Roger, Mona Sauls and husband, Maynard, Edna Sauls and Glenda Musick and husband, Beecher; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Musick and Rev. Michael McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Wyatt Ramey, Larry Belcher, Kirby Yates, Harvey Hart, Michael McGlothlin, Larry McGlothlin, Blake Yates, Brandon Yates, Randy Perkins and Lonnie “Buck” Hart. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Musick, Memp McGlothlin, Buford Honaker and Harry McGlothlin. The family will receive friends from 1 PM to 3 PM Sunday at the Honaker Funeral Home.
