Michael Deel

Mr. Michael Lawrence Deel, age 65, of the New Garden Road section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (September 21, 2016) in a Johnson City, Tennessee hospital. Born October 19, 1950 in Honaker, Virginia, he was a son of Laura Penley Deel of Honaker, Virginia and the late Elmer Deel, Sr. A lifelong resident of the Honaker area, he was a 1970 graduate of Honaker High School and a 1972 graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College with a completion in Drafting. He had formerly been employed as a foreman at Long Airdox in Claypool Hill, having worked there for twenty-eight years. A third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, he had served as a teacher of Martial Arts for several years. He enjoyed various sports and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Neverosky. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of forty-four years, Brenda Deel of the home; one son, Dustin Deel of Bristol, Virginia; one granddaughter, Ava Deel; two sisters, Debbie Harris and husband, Sherman of Richlands and Barbara Dye and husband, Randy of Honaker, Virginia; three brothers, Elmer Deel, Jr. and wife, Joann of Belfast, Curtis Deel and wife, Kay of Sparta, Tennessee, and Alvin Deel and wife, Mary Ellen of Honaker; canine companion, Cuddles; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Bro. Jerry Hess officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Anthony Deel, Randy Dye, Robert Neverosky, David Sykes, Michael Lee Sykes, and Allen Gross. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Harris, Gene Deel, Ken Patrick, Mike Sykes, Ray Deel, Bill Deel, Barry Deel, Jeff Joyce and Scott Deel.
