Gloria Wampler, age 65, of Hurricane Creek, Virginia passed away Wednesday (August 31, 2016) at her home. Born January 4, 1951 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of Mary Belle Wood of Hurricane Creek, Virginia and the late Elbert Wampler, Sr. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1970 graduate of Council High School. She became a member of the Hurricane Baptist Church at an early age and despite not being able to attend later in life. Gloria always loved when people would visit and share the Word of God. She enjoyed listening to preaching and singing. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Tolby Wood, a special brother-in-law, Milton Ratliff, several aunts, uncles, and a host of other family members and friends who are waiting for her one the other side. In addition to her mother, survivors include one brother, Kester Wampler; three sisters, Regena Wampler, Glenda Ratliff, and Pandora Kiser; brother-in-law, Scott Kiser; two nephews, Rodney Adam Ray and wife, Kate, Emory Ratliff and wife, Mary; great-nieces, Alexia Ratliff and Chelsea Ratliff; great-nephew, Wade Ratliff; uncle and aunts, Raymond Johnson and Thelma, and Gay Johnson; several cousins, friends, and neighbors. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Carl Burmeier officiating. Interment will follow in the Wampler and Wood Cemetery near the home. Pallbearers will be James Boyd, Kenny Johnson, Randall Johnson, Adam Ray, Emory Ratilff, Scott Kiser Michael Owens, and Chris Owens. Relatives and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
