Mr. Alfred Vance, age 82, of the Webb Branch section of Oakwood, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (June 22, 2016) at his home. Born May 8, 1934 in Monk, Virginia, he was a son of the late Henry Clay and Sarah Ellen Stiltner Vance. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the Honaker Church of Christ, having been baptized on January 10, 2016. He was a proud United States veteran, having served in the Air Force. He had formerly been employed as a coal miner at several area mines for over forty years and was a member of the UMWA. More recently he had worked at Mac Construction and as a security guard for Secure Toss.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Fullen Vance and Thurman Vance, and a twin infant brother, Otis Vance.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Vance of the home; one daughter, Sara Vance of Wheeling, West Virginia; one sister, Ruby Bond of Rowe; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Bro. Randy Taylor and Bro. Jerry Goss officiating. Interment will follow in the Meadows- Vance Cemetery at Page, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted by Childs Gentry VFW Post # 7360 of Grundy, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday.
