Nettie Ruth Collett, Blackwater, VA Nettie Ruth Collett, 89, Blackwater, VA, formerly of Ft. Blackmore, passed away at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing and Rehab in Duffield, VA on Friday, October 21, 2016 after a brief illness. Ruth was born in Scott County, VA, on February 14, 1927 to the late Bessie Begley. She lived most of her life in Ft. Blackmore until she moved to Blackwater to be closer to her daughter because of health reasons. Besides her mother, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Benny Collett, brother, J. C. Begley, and grandson, Shannon Maness. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Clarence Collett, of the home, daughters, Ada (Billy) Maness, Blackwater, VA and Sherry (John) Nelms, Kingsport, TN; sons, Harold Collett, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Roger (Kathy) Collett, Dungannon, VA; grandchildren, Steven (Pam) Maness, Jacob (Paige) Maness, Donnie (Scarlotte) Nelms, Amy Nelms, Tracy (Mike) Buckles, Jennifer Collett, David (Pam) Collett, Craig Collett, Chris (Amy) Collett; seven great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at MEOC, Pace, Ridgecrest Nursing Home, Holston Valley Hospital, Duffield Rescue Squad, and Mary Schardt for their special care that was given to Ruth. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 24 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at her residence. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley and Bro. Chris Fields officiating. Pam and Betty Jo Maness will provide the music. The graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Maness Family Cemetery, Blackwater Community of Scott Co. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
