Charlotte Mae Salling-Ft. Blackmore Charlotte Mae Salling, 86, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at her home. She was born in Scott County, VA on April 7, 1930. , and was the daughter of the late Clarence Asbury Kinkead and Nannie Clarice Salling Kinkead. Charlotte proudly served her county as a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Medic Technician during the Korean Conflict. In addition to her parents, her daughter, Vickie Salling; sons, Douglas Salling and Scottie Salling; sisters, Irene Kinkead, Georgie Edens and Linda Kern, and brother, James Kinkead preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ray T. Salling, Ft. Blackmore, VA; daughters, Christel Rae Salling and Tracy Caroline Grizzle and husband, Elmer, both of Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Caroline Grizzle Powell and husband, Rhett, Ft. Blackmore; great grandchildren, Zachary Krajewski; brother, Billy Kinkead and wife, Viola; along with several nieces, and nephews. Military Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Salling Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
