Arvil Salyer

Arvil L. Salyer – Kingsport, TN Arvil L. Salyer passed away at Wexford House Nursing Home on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 after a long illness. He was born in Russell County, VA on May 10, 1939 and was the son of the late Vince and Alice Salyer. He attended school at Castlewood High School. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1993 as a crane operator. He was a life member of the Kingsport Life Saving Crew. He received the Distinguished Service Award from TARS (Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads) in December 2000. In addition to his parents, Vince and Alice Salyer; his brother, Arthur and wife, Joyce Salyer, and his very special niece, Tammy Salyer preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Salyer; son; Mark Salyer; and grandchildren, Jacob, Anna, and Luke Salyer, all of Kingsport, TN; other survivors include his brother, Paul and wife, Agnes; sisters, Louise Osborne, Mary Sue Herndon, and Nancy Price; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Oscar McAmis officiating. Steve and Flo Minton will provide the music. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express a very special thank you to the employees of 300 Wing at Wexford House for their excellent care and to his friends at Kroger.
