Joy Phillips

Mrs. Joy Webb Phillips, age 58, of Covington, completed her final journey when she went to be with the Lord on September 2, 2016, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. She was the wife of the late Gerald Burn Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was born January 16, 1958 in Alleghany County, reared in Bath County on Cedar Creek and was the daughter of the late Winfred Lynwood Webb and Roberta Walton Webb. She had been employed as a machine operator by the Hanover Shoe Factory. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, her flowers and her dogs, Baby and Rocky. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her son, Kenneth “Robert” Phillips, Jr.; her daughter, Roberta Jo “Bobbi Jo” Davenport and husband, Mike; three grandchildren, Tyler Doyle, Skyler Doyle and Emily Phillips; three brothers, Steven Ashuer Webb of Covington, Lynwood Avery Webb of Roanoke and Dean Ashuer Webb of Covington; two sisters, Tammy Puffenbarger of Ash, NC and Rhonda Mayberry and husband, Jerry of Covington; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and is also survived by special caregivers, her daughter, Roberta Davenport and husband, Mike, her grandson, Tyler Doyle, Debbie Peters, Sharon Givens, Maggie Nila and Dean Webb who took care of her dogs as well as her special friend, Rev. Edith Snedegar and her church family. In addition to her parents, Winfred Lynwood and Roberta Walton Webb, her husband, Gerald Burn Phillips, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roscoe and Violet Webb Smith and Julian and Mamie Walton; a special niece, Stacy Hartless; and two sister-in-laws, Vicky Webb and Dawn Webb. A memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Iron Gate Community Church with Rev. Edith Snedegar officiating.
