Mr. Helmut Peter “Pete” Does, age 89, of Covington, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at his residence. He is survived by his companion of six years and wife, Suzanne Melinda Martin and was the husband of the late Dorothy Sutphin Does. Mr. Does was born June 4, 1927, in Aurora, IL, a son of the late Henry Does and Katherine Schmitt Does. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during War World II. During his working career, Pete was a master carpenter and owner of many businesses including Western Builders. Mr. Does is survived by his daughter, Diana Does Scott; seven step-children, Eric Walton, Dan Walton, Gregory Martin and wife, Heather, Justin Sutton and wife, Tasha, Elly Holloway and husband, J.R., Mikeal Lewis and Ashley, and Jesse Lewis and Hannah; four grandchildren, David Scott, Michael Scott, Edward Walton and Tori Gillette; nine great grandchildren, Danialle Scott, Hunter Scott, Emily Scott, Julia Scott, Logan Walton, Ben Walton, Aaron Walton, Georgia Gillette and James Gillette; three sisters, Ruth Gardiner of Covington, Hildegard Peck of Washington State, and Elizabeth Teague of California; a brother, John Does of California; a special friend of the family, Mary Holcomb; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Dorothy Sutphin Does, and his parents, Henry Does and Katherine Schmitt, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Does. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.
