Nancy Beth Murphy Mashburn, 72, formerly of Paris, died Tuesday July 17, 2007 at her home in Austin. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00a.m. Friday July 20, 2007 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Van Lazaroff officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born on September 27, 1934 in Wolfe City, TX to John Howard and Mittie Clyde Stidham Murphy. She married Billy Mashburn on June 16, 1955.
Nancy graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in Home Economics and Art. She was a teacher at Paris High School, Delmar and Justiss Elementary. She was a realtor and was a member of Paris Board of Realtors. Her passions were her precious grandchildren, art, traveling and theme decorating. She planned and decorated a number of special events, weddings, proms and tabletops in Paris and the surrounding area.
She actively participated in several community organizations and clubs. She was past president of Lamar County Home Economists and past president of the Ladies Golf Association of the Paris Golf and Country Club. She was a member of Art Study Club, Big Supper Club, Tejas Garden Club, and C’est La Vie.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Van Deaver, Danny Atnip, David Zant (great nephew), Joe Donald Mashburn (nephew), Harvey McCoin, Wayne Brown, and Phillip Wells.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Norman Montgomery, Sr., Floyd McCoin, Hal Rheudasil, Travis Coston, Don Rhodes, David Power, and Bill Jackson.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mari Beth Speight and husband Roger of Austin, and Telia Dunn and husband Dicky of Nashville, Arkansas; three grandchildren whom she adored, Richard “Tres” Mark Dunn, III of Nashville, AR, McKenzie Lyman Speight and Austin Murphy Speight, both of Austin; an aunt, Mrs. Guy (Mary Etta) McCaslin of Midland; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Chris Mashburn of Howland; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy in 2003 and a nephew, David Glenn Mashburn.
