William “Bill” Wayne Mercier, age 78, of Nixon, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 after a short stay in Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin. He was born November 29, 1937 to the late Wayne and Louise Mercier. Bill Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanie (Pruett) Mercier; his sons: Gary Mercier and wife, Gretchen, of Austin; Vic Mercier and companion, Gay Bruns, of Victoria; grandchildren: Tayler Mercier, Jennifer O’Neal and husband Denver, Aubrey Mercier, Joey Bruns, Amy Thompson and husband, Ashton; great-grandchildren: Henry Wayne O’Neal and Kadence Thompson; brothers: Donnie Christian and wife, Leana; Ronny Christian and wife, Shirley; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends; and his canine companions, Woody and Elle. After retiring from DuPont, Billy returned to his home town of Nixon to start a successful cattle ranching career. Billy was known for his steadfast dedication to his family and his community. He will be missed by all that knew him. A Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 4:00PM – 8:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon. The Funeral service will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Finch Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Miles officiating. Interment will follow at the Nixon Cemetery. Pallbearers: Gary Mercier, Vic Mercier, John Mercier, Ronny Mangum, Joey Bruns, Doug Shaffer, Ashton Thompson, and Denver O’Neal.
