Nancy Ann (Melenesk) Manka

Nancy Ann (Melenesk) Manka passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Nesbit Living & Recovery Center in Seguin. Nancy was born on October 15, 1953 to parents Lawrence and Betsy Melenesk in Floresville, Texas. She was a resident of La Vernia, graduating from La Vernia High School in 1971. She married Richard Aloys Manka on June 23, 1973, at first living in Elmendorf but then moving back to La Vernia restoring a home on the Melenesk family home place. Nancy worked with her mom at the La Vernia News as an advertising manager. She loved talking with various business owners, encouraging them to buy an ad, promoting their business and helping the paper keep afloat. She also helped to bring community and school news together, and for many years she maintained her own column in the paper called Nancy’s Corner. At first they worked for the Fietsams who owned the Floresville Chronicle and La Vernia News. The La Vernia News was eventually bought by the Melenesk family who worked hard to build it up and keep a community paper within their hometown of La Vernia. Those of you, who knew Nancy, know how she loved to talk. Just like her Mom and Uncle Clinton they knew no strangers, and the three shared a special bond throughout their lifetimes. Nancy loved to talk on the phone and the fact is known that many of those she cared about got a wake-up call even in the wee hours of the morning. Nancy also dabbled with oil painting, crocheting, other craft projects, canning vegetables and making jelly. Survivors include her husband, Richard; her sister and brother-in-law, Sarah (Melenesk) & Robert Young; nephew and his wife, Robert Young Jr, (Bobby) & Tracey Young; nieces and their husbands, Christine & Hank Perez and Tracey & Nathan Krenek; great nieces and nephews, Blake and Brooke Young; Hannah Perez; Kaleb, Landon and Lyle Krenek; Aunt Betty Chandler; cousins, Harry & Emmy Chandler; Nelson Chandler; Eddie, Bridgett and Morgan Mueller; as well as numerous other cousins, relatives and friends.
