Don McCord

Don Alan McCord, 53, of Lake Mexia, passed away June 19, 2016 in Waco, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Booker T. Washington Park pavallion with Rev. Michael Lehnhardt officiating. There will be a reception to follow at the Lake Mexia Marina. Don was born in Waxahachie, Texas on August 10, 1962 to Don W. McCord and Ann Haught Hardin. Prior to moving to Lake Mexia, he worked for the Dallas Marble Company for many years. Don was an avid fisherman (the fish whisper of Lake Mexia). He also enjoyed country motocross racing and was a “Jack of all Trades”, could build or fix anything. He was very outgoing and loved by all who knew him. Don’s family was the light of his life. The love of his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren kept him fighting cancer for 13 years. His faith was strong and he embraced all God’s creations. The legacy he leaves for all to remember is “Have faith, God will work everything out for good and keep swimming”. He was preceded in death by his father, Don W. McCord. Don is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Tammra L McCord of Lake Mexia; son, Jared Kane McCord, Staff Sargent United States Army; daughter, Tera McCord; grandson, Keegan Tyler McCord; granddaughter, Blair Abigale McCord; mother, Ann Hardin and brothers, Steve McCord and Brian McCord. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Angels of Hope, A Family Cancer Foundation, 14281 Bournemuth, Shelby TWP, MI 48315.
