Peggy Wagner Obituary

Peggy Wagner, 75, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 25, 2016 in Arlington. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones after a twenty-one year battle with Breast Cancer. Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Monday at Fielder Church, 1323 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: 1:15 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dalloas, Lane B. Visitation: 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Peggy was born to Dr. Cleveland H. Pardue, Jr and Lela Belle Pardue on May 21, 1941 in Shreveport, LA, the first of five children. She grew up in Vivian, LA where her father and grandfather were family physicians. Peggy attended schools in Vivian and graduated from North Caddo High School in 1959 where she was active in many organizations. She was a member of the band and was a majorette and featured twirler. In the summers she attended band and twirling camps and participated in twirling competitions. Peggy loved everyone and was well loved by her many friends. After graduation from North Caddo, Peggy attended Baylor University and Centenary College in Shreveport, earning a BS in Elementary Education in 1968. Her studies were interrupted by her marriage to her high school sweetheart, John H. Wagner II, who was a new 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. She was an Army wife for the six years that John was on active duty. They were stationed in Washington State at Fort Lewis and then in Kitzingen and Stuttgart, Germany. She kept the home fires burning while John served in Vietnam while finishing her degree in Elementary Education at Centenary and caring for their first son, Bart. When John returned from Vietnam, they moved to Boston for two years while he earned his MS degree in 1970. After graduation, John took a job in Chicago and they moved to Naperville, Illinois. Later they would move to Nashua, NH and then to Arlington, TX where they have resided since 1978. While in Nashua Peggy worked as a Substitute Teacher in the local schools. After they moved to Arlington she got her Real Estate License and worked for Ebby Halliday Realtors in Arlington for twenty years during the rapid growth of Arlington in the 1980’s and 90’s. Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 1995, and all of the surgeries and chemo treatments, she continued to work until John was offered a consulting assignment in 2001 in Baden Baden, Germany. She encouraged him to take the job and they lived in Germany for eighteen months, traveling extensively throughout Europe on the weekends. This was one of the happiest periods of her life. After returning to Arlington she learned the cancer had spread and she had to endure more surgery and chemo. Never the less, she recovered enough to travel extensively, enjoying 12 cruises and many other international trips. Peggy is an inspiration to many people because of the grace and courage she showed during her never quit fight against the cancer that would eventually take her life. She was a wife, mother of two sons and grandmother to two granddaughters and one grandson. Family always came first with Peggy. Also she was a daughter, sister, twirler, scholar, business woman and world traveler. She was a true friend of those she met along the way. She will be missed so much, but never out of the hearts of those who loved her. She was taken from us too soon. She ran a good race. May she now rest in peace. Well Done. She is preceded by her father and mother, Dr. Cleveland H. Pardue Jr. and Lela Belle. She is survived by her Husband of 54 years, John H. Wagner II, two sons, Dr. John (Bart) III and Peter and their wives, Dr. Diane and Sherra, two granddaughters, Katy and Sarah Wagner and grandson, Drew Wagner, her sisters, Prissy Pardue Briggs Martin and Candace Pardue, her brothers, Dr. Cleve Pardue III and Dr. Timothy Jon Pardue and their wives, Diana and Dr. Marianna and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to support the Breast Cancer Research Fund through Baylor Health Care System Foundation online at www.give.baylorhealth.com or by check, payable to BHCS Foundation, at 3600 Gaston Avenue, Ste. 100, Dallas, TX 75246.
