Alpha Petree Maynardville, Tennessee Obituary

Alpha Petree

Alpha Opal (Hartgrove) Petree, born on May 17, 1923, went to Heaven on August 10, 2016. Alpha was born in Maynardville, as a young adult lived in Halls and most recently a resident of Knoxville for the past 33 years. She was greatly loved by her family, neighbors and friends. She worked at Hall and Tate’s during World War II, sewing military uniforms. She enjoyed cooking and canning and loved to tend her flower garden. She was a room mother at Halls Elementary and a DVA Volunteer, serving as an officer and representing veterans’ and widows’ needs for more than 10 years. She was an active member of City View Baptist Church. Alpha lived a long life, spent caring for her family, neighbors and friends. To her children she gave love, discipline, strength, humor, laughter and most of all the value of family. She will be greatly missed by us all. Our loving mother is preceded in death by our father, Leo Petree; their two children Sue and Ronnie; grandson, Steven Shaffer; mother, Minnie (Kitts) Hartgrove; father, James Hartgrove; brothers, Elmer “Red”, Willet “Wizzie” and Walter; and sisters, Bonella Blair and Estalee Jones. She is survived by her children, Douglas (Diane) Petree of Maynardville; Myrna Petree Grimes of Ramsey, Indiana; Carol Petree (Ed) Christini of Windsor, Colorado; grandchildren, Jeanne Sprague, Brian Roark and Natalie Wayland (Jason) Young; great grandchildren, Adrian, Erica and Brian; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service to immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Gene Hurley officiating. Private interment in Carr Cemetery.
