Rev. Dayton Edgar Babb Obituary

April 7, 1919 – January 14, 2011

Rev. Dayton Edgar Babb, age 91, of 117 McIntyre Street, Jonesborough, TN , went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, January 14, 2011 at the James H. Quillen V.A Medical Center Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Carter and Washington Counties, and a son of the late Alfred Babb and Rettie Ann Medlin Babb. Rev. Babb was a U.S Army Veteran serving during WWII. He was a spinner mechanic at North American Rayon Corporation and retired in 1980 after 39 years. Rev Babb was a member of the Bible Church and also attended Day of Deliverance Church, and was a Bishop of the Pentecostal Faith. Rev. Babb was a well known Pentecostal Preacher in the area. In addition to his parents, Mr. Babb was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Brumitt Babb in 1987; a son, Ricky Babb, 1971; brothers, Otis, Marshall, Guy, Alfred Jr., Carson, Arch, Freddie, and Marvin Babb, and David Head; Grandson, Anthony Hale Babb; Daughter-in-law, Rosa Babb; Son-in-law, Irvan Ford.
Survivors include his wife Jo Ellen Babb, Jonesborough; five children, Marjorie Zehring Ford, Jonesborough, Eddie Babb, Johnson City, Daniel Babb, Jonesborough, Linda Babb, Caribou, Maine, Rocky Babb and Wife Amy, Jonesborough; One step daughter, Margaret White and husband, Curtis, Tracy Mill (N.B.) Canada; Two brothers, Cecil Babb and wife Nola, Elizabethton, Jim Head and wife Audrey; Four sisters, Lena Phipps, Elizabethton, Gladys Weaver, Johnson City, Wanda Presnell, Johnson City, Verna Gaye and husband Bobby Fulwiler, Johnson City; Step-Children, The Marshall Family; Grandchildren, Patricia Zehring, Gladys, Mary, Tammy, and Violet Baker , Clara Babb, Terrence, Joshua, Jacob, and Jeremy Zehring, Ricky and Kenneth Babb, David Craze, Edward Baker, Edward Walker, and Morgan Lynn Babb; Step grandsons, Travis, Tyler, and Tyson White. Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Rev. Babb will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 17, 2010 from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Hilton officiating. Music will be under the direction of Betty Baker and the Joyful Sounds and Carla Jarrett. Friends may celebrate Dayton’s life with the family at Appalachian Funeral Home Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. or other times at the residence of a daughter, 102 Oakwell Ln., Jonesborough, TN.
The graveside service and internment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 18 from Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Boone Dam V.F.W and members of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday to proceed to the Cemetery led by Rolling Thunder.
