Betty Hardeman Brooks Obituary

Betty Hardeman Brooks of Franklin, TN was born May 26, 1931 in Sandy Springs, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, to Earnest Hardeman and Ellen Nolen. She passed away October 17, 2016 with her family at her side. Betty spent her growing up years in the West End section of Atlanta. Betty possessed great musical talent. She studied voice and piano through the years. While in high school, she was the lead soprano of the West End Church of Christ Chorus that sang on Saturday nights in Atlanta. In 1948, as a student at David Lipscomb College, she met Bob Brooks. On August 18, 1951, they were married at Druid Hills Church of Christ in Atlanta. They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Following their marriage they set out on a ministry that would carry them to six full time works with six churches in four states, plus a missionary effort in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Betty was a great preacher’s wife…friendly, loving, and helpful to every person’s needs. Her warm personality, sweet smile, and infectious laugh endeared her to everyone. She clothed herself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (Col. 3:12). Her teaching qualities were outstanding with the Brownie Troop as a teenager or at church with the pre-school children, the Junior High youngsters, or a group of ladies. In Florence, Alabama, her ladies class numbered over 100 each week and women came from area churches to hear Betty. When the Brick Wall was laid at Avalon Hall which was Brother David Lipscomb’s home, individual bricks were inscribed with various ladies’ names. One read: Betty Brooks – A Worthy Woman. And indeed she was! In addition to her husband, Bob Brooks, she is survived by son, Steven (Vanessa) of Orlando, FL and daughter, Melissa Brooks of Franklin, TN. Funeral service will be held 11:00AM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Richard Youngblood and Jonathan Seamon officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Wilson, Don Freeman, Ron Sandefer, Richard Sandefer, Tommy Barksdale, Danny Shaw, Tom Booton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Fund. Visitation will be 4-7PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service at WILLIAMSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES. 615-794-2289. www.williamsonmemorial.com
