William Wesley Smith, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at his home in Clarksville. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Rev. Garrette Milliken officiating. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens where Military Honors will be rendered. The Smith family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. William entered into this life on March 12, 1920 in Montgomery County to Zelmer and Mary Ogg Smith. William was a part of the much heralded "greatest generation" as he served his country without reservation and fought for the liberty of countless others while enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. In 1956 he co-founded the former C&M Supply Company of Clarksville and enjoyed being active in the greater Clarksville business community until his retirement in 1985. William was a member of the American Legion and was an active 50+ year member of Queen City Masonic Lodge #761, the Al Menah Shrine Temple, and was a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason. William was a part of the church family at Hilldale United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Millicent Mary Smith; son Robert Smith; and grandson, Cliff Alford II. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Alford and husband Larry; grandchildren, Danny Alford (Jennifer), Michelle Anderson-Hollis (Paul), and Alicia Langford (Tommy); great grandchildren, Shelby and Julie Alford, Kailee and Jared Anderson, Lando Hollis, and Wyatt and Amelia Langford. Pallbearers will be Danny Alford, Larry Alford, Mike Knight, John Mark Atkins, Phillip Morris, Warren Easterling, and Jeff Ransdell. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Lentz, John Atkins, and Mike Bowers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cliff Alford Scholarship Fund % Queen City Masonic Lodge, 1496 Golf Club Lane, Clarksville, TN 37040.
