Clease Lawrence Rogers, 96, of Platte, SD passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Platte Care Center. Graveside Services will take place at a later date in Washington. Clease Lawrence Rogers was born on February 16, 1920 to George and Flora (Covey) Rogers in Geddes, SD. He attended country school through the eighth grade. On May 26, 1941 Clease was united in marriage to Merle Bash. He served his country for two years in the US Army stationed overseas in the South Pacific, returning in June of 1946. He was employed as a caterpillar operator for a county landfill in Washington. In 1977, Clease was united in marriage to Esther (Kerner) Hoffmann and remained in Washington for the next 10 years. When he retired, they returned to South Dakota to live in Gregory until becoming residents of the Platte Care Center in 2012. Clease loved his family and enjoyed being with them, especially his grandkids. He was a skilled woodworker and built wooden butterflies for his grandchildren. Clease was always busy, he will be missed. Grateful for having shared in Clease’ life: his wife of over 39 years, Esther Rogers of Platte, SD; a daughter, Patrice Cossey and husband, Larry of Selah, WA; a daughter-in-law, Robin Rogers of Yakima, WA; a granddaughter, Nicole Phillips and husband, Matt; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a step son, Glenn Hoffmann and wife, Ellen of Gregory, SD and their children and grandchildren: Bobbi (Chris) Reinartz, Samantha, Ashley, Isabella and Tate; Traci (Abraham) Novotony, Alison and Louis; Misty Claussen, Tammi and Michael; Mae Long, Elizabeth, Ethan, Emily and Derek; Richard (Tina) Hoffmann, Blake and Kaylee; and Angela Hoffmann; a special niece, Lucille Teel of Burke, SD; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Jack Kerner; a sister-in-law, and Lila Mullens. Clease was preceded in death by his wife, Merle (Jan. 26, 1973); two sons: Randy and David; a son-in-law, Douglas; two grandsons, Jaime and Chad; his parents; and nine siblings.
