James Morris Obituary

James Thomas Morris, Jr., 70, husband of Brenda Davis Morris, died Friday, October 21, 2016, at his home. Born July 26, 1946, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James T. Morris, Sr. and the late Ollie Mae Dennis Morris. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and retired as a corrections officer from the Turbeville Correctional Facility. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of 15 years; a son, James T. “Jimmy” Morris, III (Carolyn) of Sumter; a daughter, Brandy Steele (Chris) of Sumter; three step-sons, Claude Corbett and Danny Ray Sims both of Sumter, and David Lamar Corbett of CA; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vicki Mixon (Rev. Pete) of Sumter and Sandy Baker (Rev. Jim) of Beaufort. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. George Smith and the Rev. Pete Mixon officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the family c/o Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, 515 Miller Rd., Sumter, S.C. 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
