Donald Young

Donald Wayne Young, 75, husband of Susan Allgood Young, died Friday, July 22, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. Born May 14, 1941, in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Doby R. Young and the late Julia O. Catoe Young. He was a member and elder of Plaza Church of Christ and retired from DuPont after 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of 48 years; two daughters, Angela Nahooikaika (James) of Sumter and Balinda Hargrove (Gary) of Horatio; two grandchildren, Ryan Wayne Phillips and Brittany Dawn Phillips; two sisters, Joanne Vinson (Bill) and Barbara Potteiger both of Camden; two brothers, Richard Young of Darlington and Kenneth Young (Pat) of Bethune; and special friends, Gary and Jenny Johnson of TN, and Machelle, Kristin, and Brandon. Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Plaza Church of Christ with Mr. Gary Johnson officiating. Private burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1140 Malone Drive. Memorials may be made to the Southeastern Children’s Home, 115 Children’s Way, Duncan, SC 29334. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for all of their care and compassion. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
