Michael J. Gencarelli, 96, beloved husband of Rose (Migliaccio) Gencarelli, of Longvue Avenue, Westerly, passed away at Coventry Health Center on Monday, September 5, 2016. Born in Westerly, he was a son of the late Antonio and Annina Gencarelli. Michael was the co-owner of Gencarelli Tobacco for many years and was also formerly employed by E.B. General Dynamics in Groton. A US Army Veteran of WWII, he was a life member and Past Commander of the Amancio Falcone Gaccione VFW Post #8955. Michael was a communicant of St. Pius X Church, a member of the former St. Pius X Men’s Club and a life member of the Calabrese Society. He leaves a son Michael A. Gencarelli and his wife Sharon and a daughter Anita M. Leonetti and her husband Thomas, all of Westerly. He will also be dearly missed by his five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by four brothers, Dr. A.F. Gencarelli, Vincent Gencarelli, Frank Gencarelli and Ernest Gencarelli as well as three sisters, Mary, Nancy and Rose Gencarelli. A visiting hour will be held at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St, Westerly on Friday from 9-10am, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly. Burial with Full Military Honors will be at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
