Lucy Turano

Lucy Turano, 88, passed away on 17 August, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Stonington, CT, daughter of the late Arthur and Lucinda Smith who both passed in the very early years of her life, she was raised by Kenneth and Edith Smith of Pawcatuck CT. She is survived by her husband Peter G. Turano Jr. of over 63 years. Lucy was raised in Pawcatuck, CT and graduated from Stonington High School. She was employed by New England Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator and supervisor. She took time off to raise her three children and returned to work with for the Westerly School Department as a teacher's aide until her retirement. In addition to her husband she leaves behind her three children, Peter G Turano III and his companion Janet Martone, Lynne Turano and her fiancée Robert Froncillo, and Kenneth Turano all from Westerly; brother Kenneth Smith Jr.; sister Shirley Cameron from Massachusetts and brother-in-law Dwayne Ashcroft from West Virginia. Lucy was a loving wife and mother which was so important to her. Her passion in life was her children. She enjoyed spending time with her family, close friends and her monthly lunch dates with her former co-workers from the school department. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly and Our Lady of Victory in Ashaway. She will dearly missed by all her family and friends. Our sincere appreciation to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of South County Rhode Island. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4-6pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly on Monday at 12:30pm. There is no procession from the funeral home to church.
