Virginia Fry Obituary

Virginia Esther Fry, 95, of Shippensburg, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in her home. She was born January 5, 1921 in Orrstown, PA. Virginia was a daughter of the late Paul M. and Dorothy N. Baker Staver. Her husband, Andrew Z. Fry, a daughter, Beverly Ann George, a granddaughter, Bethany Christine Fry, a daughter-in law, Ralma C. Fry, a brother, Galen P. Staver, and a sister, Phyllis J. Douglas are also deceased. She was a member of the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church. Virginia and her husband founded Fry’s Dry Cleaning, Newville in 1946 and in 1949 moved the business to Shippensburg, renaming it Towne Cleaners. During WWII she worked at Letterkenny Army Depot and followed her husband during his assignments on completing his Pilot Training Programs. Even while raising children, she found time to devote to community service including; the First Court Chapter # 470, Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, and the Civic Club all in Shippensburg and was a member of the Beta Sigma PHI Sorority. Virginia was a 1939 graduate of the former Shippensburg High School. Virginia was a devoted mother and was very interested in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Donald A. (Cynthia) Fry, and one daughter, Andrea L. (Roy) Snoke, Shippensburg, a son-in-law Robert George, Carlisle, two sisters, Evelyn Fuller and Dorothy Jean Bughman all of Shippensburg, eight grandchildren, Stephanie A. Douglas, Angela A. Lane, Carla E. May, Patrick R. Snoke, Colby A. Fry, Timothy D. Fry, Katherine Y. Hickman and Abigail K. Hanson, twelve great grandchildren, George Douglas IV, Chase May, Justine Douglas, Cameron May, Andrew Fry, Mia Fry, Amya Lane, Addison Lane, Kayla Fry, Bennett Snoke, Celia Snoke, and Riley Fry, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Michael Miller. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however a visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Public Library, 73 West King Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
