Charles Heckman

Charles William, “Tuffy” Heckman, Sr., 92, of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Shippensburg Health care Center. Born Saturday, August 30, 1924 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late John Edgar and Nellie Irene Holtry Heckman. Charles was the owner/operator of Heckman’s Electric for 60+ years retiring in 1989. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Normandy during WWII. He was a retired Forest Fire Warden with 50 years of service. Charles served as a Shippensburg Constable and the Shippensburg Fire Police. He was a Life member of the West End Fire & Rescue, former Manager and Life member of the Oscar M. Hykes American legion Post # 223, member of the Hub City Club, Minnequa Club, all in Shippensburg, a Life member of the Chambersburg Marine Corp. League and a Life member of the NRA. Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Helen Yvonne Fisher Swanger Heckman, six sons John E. (Rita) Heckman, Orrstown, Darryl L. (Debbie) Heckman, Shippensburg, Charles W. (Melody) Heckman, Jr., Lewisbury, Randy E. Heckman, Jeffrey A. Heckman, and Anthony W (.Fiance’ Chris) Heckman, all of Shippensburg, two daughters; Deborah F. (Allen) Stausner, Waynesboro and Tammy R. (Edward) Reese, Shippensburg, two step sons; Tony C. (Brenda) Fisher, Mechanicsburg and Gerald B. Swanger, Shippensburg, one step daughter, Delores A. (Lee) Petersheim, Greencastle, two sisters; Bernita Snader, Boiling Springs and Freda Myers, Shippensburg, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Zula Elizabeth Lynch Heckman who died November 30, 1978, two brothers; Jack and Ray Heckman and one sister, Alma Weaver. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium with the Rev. Richard Rotz officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council. A viewing will be held Thursday, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West End Fire & Rescue, 49 Lurgan Avenue, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
