Bishop Elvina Miller Obituary

Elvina Elizabeth Traini, of 303 S. Washington Street, Shippensburg, PA completed her journey to Jesus, August 2, 2016. Elvina was born in Hamburg, PA on March 4, 1917 to Luigi and Maria (Mary) (Mozzoni) Traini who were immigrants from Italy. She had 4 sisters and 4 brothers (Sundena, Elma, Tarquina, Harry, Louis, Adam, Mary, and Alfred). She worked in the Berkey Hosiery Mill in Hamburg where she met her husband, Harrison Franklin Miller, and they were united in marriage on March 31st, 1934 by Father Joseph Martin in the Hamburg Catholic Church. After her work in the Hosiery Mill, Elvina worked as a Governess for the Berkey Family. She was also trained in nursing. On April 14, 1950 Elvina was set in as an exhorter of the Gospel. On June 8, 1950 Elvina was licensed as a Minister of the Gospel and on November 19, 1951 she was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel, all under Rev. George Folk of the Hamburg Assemblies of God Church. Elvina and Harrison had two children, Lyle Aaron Miller (who married Maria Christina) and Myrna Yvonne (Miller) Speck (who married Bursie Vaughn). These two children gave them eight grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and currently fifteen great-great-grandchildren. Shortly after Harrison and Elvina were ordained, they were sent out in evangelistic meetings. This precipitated them selling their home on Confer Avenue in Hamburg and most of their family belongings, buying a Spartan Royal Mansion Trailer and a tent, and with their two young children embarking in the ministry to which God had called them. Their healing and evangelistic meetings brought them to Saxton, PA where they found an unfinished church in need of a pastor, the Bible Deliverance Center, now the Oasis of Love Church in the Valley of Saxton. Elvina, who had felt the call to Africa, put her travel money and her wedding ring in the offering plate to finish the building and there this husband and wife team would establish their pastoral ministry. Harrison (the teacher) taught, pastored, and worked other jobs to support the church and family while Elvina (the preacher, prophet, and evangelist) continued to broaden the borders. Eventually they started the Deliverance Temple, now Oasis of Love Church of Shippensburg, at its current address of 303 S. Washington Street, Shippensburg, PA. As they continued to pastor these churches, Elvina answered the call to other nations. Over the years she fulfilled her dream of going to Africa, but she also covered all of South America, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Europe, Canada and all across the USA. Sister Miller, as she was known in the early days of her ministry, or Bishop Miller, crossed the 7 seas proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Age could not stop her. In her 80’s she founded the Oasis International Training Centre in Prampram, Ghana, West Africa where she was able to celebrate her 90th birthday before returning to the States and home for the last time. She was instrumental in planting churches in Huntingdon and Edinboro, PA, Rio Rico, AZ, and all around the world. Her ministry took her to palaces and kings as well as the poorest of the poor. She met with senators, members of Parliament, and every day, ordinary people. She recognized they all had one thing in common, the need for Jesus. Her life was a living sacrifice to God. Both of her children and several of her grandchildren are active in the ministry and she has spiritual children all around the world. She is also the author of 2 books, Captured in Africa, and Under the Mango Tree, which chronical her work in Ghana, West Africa and was granted an honorary Doctorate in Divinity from the Tricoma Bible College, Nigeria, West Africa. This little lady with a height of 4’10” was, and will remain, a giant in the Kingdom of God. We are all blessed to know her and her legacy will live through her fruit! A private ‘Celebration of Life Service’ in her honor will be held Sunday, August 7, 2016. The service will be open to her family and the Oasis of Love Church Family and all it’s branches. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, and the Service will be at 4:00 PM at the Oasis of Love Church, 303 South Washington Street, Shippensburg, PA. There will also be a public Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM, also at The Oasis of Love Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given in her honor to ‘The Oasis International Training Centre’, Prampram, Ghana, checks to be made out to The Oasis of Love Church.
