Norman A. Barilla Obituary

Norman A. Barilla, 88, of Neshannock Township, passed away the morning of June 20, 2016 at Allegheny General Hospital. Born on August 6, 1927 in New Castle, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Fabian Barilla. Surviving at home is his beloved wife of 67 years, the former Mary Elisco, whom he married on April 21, 1949.


Norman was a longtime local businessman; he was a National Sales Manager for Boyertown Casket Company and a Regional Sales Manager for Yorktown Casket Company. He then worked for Milso Casket Company until his retirement in 2008. Norman thoroughly enjoyed his work and became close friends with many of his customers. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Norman’s love and biggest interest in life was his family.


In addition to his wife, Norman is survived by his children, Attorney Norman J. Barilla and wife Cindy L. of New Castle, Karen A. Hastings of Citra, FL, and Diane Frasso and husband Charles of Hockessin, DE; brother, Louis Barilla of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Barilla, brother, Frank Barilla, and son-in-law, Angus Hastings.


Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A procession will leave the funeral home Thursday at 9:15am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Vitus Church, officiated by Father Frank Almade.


Interment will take place in St. Vitus Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at the cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Norman’s honor to St. Vitus School 915 S. Jefferson Street, New Castle, PA 16101 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
