Harry R. Broberg Obituary

Age 91, passed away and entered into the living presence of his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday morning, July 10, 2016 in his home, as his son, the Rev. Stuart Broberg, was speaking the benediction at Church of the Covenant, Washington, and his faithful wife, Ona “Johnnie” Broberg, was at his side. His faith was strong and unwavering to the end, and he “fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished the race.” He was born on August 14, 1924 at home, a son of Carl and Olga Broberg, both of Swedish descent. He was baptized in the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swissvale. He was one of seven brothers and sisters, all of whom are deceased. Mr. Broberg served in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. Toward the end of the war, he was sent to the Philippines to fight in the Pacific theater. Upon his honorable discharge, he graduated cum laude from Bethany College and immediately went to work as a manager at the RCA plant in Canonsburg. On September 8, 1951, he married his college sweetheart, Ona “Johnnie” Deardorff. They were happily married and about to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Mr. Broberg exemplified “The Greatest Generation” - he was a believer in hard work and service to country, patriotic, a family man, a faithful friend, generous, a strong believer in Jesus Christ, and always active in his church. He was a member of Church of the Covenant, Washington. He was an ordained deacon and served as a longtime usher in his family’s home church, Peters Creek United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Broberg served as president of the Association of Product of Inventory Control Specialists. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and Golf Club of Washington. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ona “Johnnie” Broberg; a son, the Rev. Dr. Stuart D. Broberg; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13 in Church of the Covenant, Washington where a Witness to the Resurrection service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 14.
