John Verolini

John J. Verolini, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Friday morning (September 30, 2016) at the Bradford Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept 6, 1923, in Kushequa, the son of the late Alfonso and Flavia (Seri) Verolini. On June 16, 1951, in Kushequa, he married Jeanne Davidson, who survives. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Mr. Verolini served in the US Army during WWII in England, where he received a Soldiers Medal for saving an 18 month old child from drowning. It is one of the highest non- service related medals the Army offers. He worked for the PA Dept. of Transportation for 32 years and received the Distinquished Service Award from them in 1981. He also had owned and operated Verolini Trucking. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a long-time member of the Mt Jewett Ambulance Association. He was also a lifetime member of the PIAA and had served on the Smethport Area School Board for 36 years, with 19 of those years as president. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Sally (Ken) Bernhard of Corry and Debbie (Steve) Wilner of VA; one sister, Columbia Verolini of Buffalo, NY; one granddaughter, Amy Bernhard of Erie; one step-grandson, Josh (Lacey) Wilner of VA; one step-granddaughter, Katy (Ben) Wilner of Pittsburgh; and several great great-grandchildren. He also leaves his very special cat, Joey. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, John K. Bernhard. Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home in Kane on Tuesday (Oct. 4) from 2-4 and 7-9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday (Oct.5) at St. Josephs Catholic Church with the Rev. Vincent Cieslewicz, pastor, officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Nebo Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the McKean County SPCA, Box 113, Bradford, PA 16701.
