Gary Dahler

Gary M. Dahler Sr., 75, died Tuesday afternoon at UPMC-Hamot after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born in Kane on March 25, 1941, the son of the late Edward P. and Edna (Lobaugh) Dahler. He married Onley Jean Smith, who survives, on Oct. 15, 1960 at the Kingdom Hall in Port Allegany. Mr. Dahler had attended Toby Springs Elementary School, Hazel Hurst Elementary School and the Hamlin High School. He worked for United Natural Gas and then National Fuel Gas from 1962 until his retirement on Aug. 1, 1997. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed raising livestock and gardening. It was a source of pride for him and he enjoyed sharing with his neighbors. He was a past social member of the Mt. Jewett VFW and American Legion and the Mt. Jewett Sportsman Club. Surviving in addition to his wife are one son Marty (Lisa) Dahler of Smethport; one daugher, Heidi (Denny) Anderson of Kane; one sister Beth Ann (John) Slewinski of Clermont, FL; one brother, Roger Dahler of Smethport; four step-grandchildren, James, Patrick and Constance Anderson and Emma Ruoff; a nephew, Chad (Kathy) Kilmer and a great nephew, Austin Kilmer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a twin brother Carl and a nephew Adam Dahler. Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday (Aug. 6) from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Craig Smith, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Jewett, officiating. Private family burial service will follow in Bridgeview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the McKean County SPCA, the Hamlin Twp. Fire Dept or the Donor's Choice. Online condolences can be expressed at www.cummingsfh.com.
