Earl E. Meily (Pappy Earl), 85, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born on February 26, 1931 in Lebanon, PA, he was the oldest son of George and Leah Meily. Earl was married to his beloved best friend and wife, the former Elizabeth Wolfersburger, for 24 years. Elizabeth went to be with our Lord in 1992.
Earl was a long standing employee for the Hershey Company for 40 plus years, the last 10 years as a coder technician. Earl served in the Army from 1952-1954. He was a Korean War Veteran.
Earl was a member of the American Legion Post 0559 and the Local 464 Hershey Chocolate Workers Union. He was a dedicated Phillies fan, even when they lost.
Left here to remember him are one son, Carey Nye and his wife, Anna, of Sherrill, NY; two grandsons, Jacen Fort and his wife, Heather, of Verona, NY, and Paul E. Nye and his wife, Katrina, of Oregon state. He also leaves eight great grandchildren, Kelsie and Andrew Fort of Verona, NY, and Taylor, and Alexander of Sherrill, NY, and Jeffrey, Brendon, Mason, and Jacob Nye of Oregon. A very special and endearing nephew and his wife, Robin and Sharon Nester of Hummelstown, PA; nephews and their wives, Jack and Olivea Lewis of Greencastle, PA, and Dick and Josie Lewis of Waynesboro; niece, Sandy Ashen of Owings Mills, MD; sisters-in-law, Sylvia of Liverpool, PA, Kathy of Jonestown, PA, Mary Ann also of Liverpool, PA; and friend, Evelyn Logan of Hummelstown, PA.
He was predeceased by a son, Jerry Nye; his brothers, Robert, William, Glenn, Richard, and George; and his parents.
His grandchildren and great grandchildren endear him as their “Pappy Earl”. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and uncle, who loved his family passionately.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2016, at 11 AM in Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg, PA. Friends and relatives are invited to the viewing in the funeral home Friday from 10 AM until time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), 4219 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
