Robert L. Sprow

Robert L.“Pork” Sprow, 72, of Nalcrest, FL and formerly of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Forsythe Hospice House in Auburndale, FL. Born November 17, 1943 in Waynesboro, he was a son of the late Lewis C. and Ethel E. Barnes Sprow. He was a 1962 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School where he was a member of the football team. Robert attended Shippensburg University as a math major. He served honorably in the US Army, Corps of Engineers, spending his active duty in Thailand and the Philippines until 1967. He was employed with the US Postal Service as a mail carrier in Fayetteville for 30 years prior to his retirement. His wife, Cynthia S. Glasgow Sprow, whom he married January 13, 1967 in DeRidder, LA, preceded him in death on April 24, 2002. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Upon returning to Fayetteville after the Army, he served as Vice President of the Falling Spring Chapter of Trout Unlimited and spent many hours working towards conservation management of the Falling Spring as well as tying his own flies. Robert enjoyed spending summers fly fishing in Colorado with his daughter. He was a member and Past President of Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department and also held membership in Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842 and the Chambersburg Club. While living in Nalcrest, he enjoyed fishing, playing softball and was a fierce pinochle player. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Sprow Countryman and husband Ryan of Aurora, CO; his son, Michael L. Sprow and wife Annetta of Fayetteville, PA; his grandchildren Travis Sprow and Tiffiny Sprow of Chambersburg; Eva Jane and Caleb Ryan Countryman of Aurora, Colorado and Trevor Hoffeditz of Saint Thomas; his sister Jane Gearhart and her husband Robert of Fayetteville; his brother Lewis C. Sprow, Jr. and his wife Dotty of South Mountain; his sister Kathyrn Sanders of Fayetteville. Also surviving are six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Suzanne Elliott will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends may convene after the funeral at the Amvets Post 224 on 5th avenue in Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Franklin-Fulton Unit, 924 North Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403, The Falling Spring Chapter of Trout Unlimited, 2670 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202, or to the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, 101 West Main Street, Fayetteville, PA 17222.
